About Mean Weather
- What do the three numbers in a cell mean?
- The lowest, the mean (or the median, switchable in the toolbar) and the highest forecast across the weather models that are switched on. Purple outer numbers mean the models disagree by more than usual for that column.
- Which weather models are compared?
- Nine global models, fetched through Open-Meteo: ECMWF IFS, ECMWF AIFS (AI), NOAA GFS, DWD ICON, Met Office UKMO, Météo-France ARPEGE, ECCC GEM, JMA and CMA GRAPES. The "seamless" variants blend in each agency's regional high-resolution model where one exists, so the same list works anywhere in the world.
- What do the small arrows mean?
- On High, Low and Rain, an arrow shows that the models' average has moved by at least 1° or 1 mm since their run three days ago, using Open-Meteo's archive of previous runs. Hover or tap the cell for the numbers.
- Is anything tracked or uploaded?
- Nothing is tracked: no cookies, no accounts, no analytics. Two things do leave your browser, both over HTTPS: the coordinates of the place you choose go to Open-Meteo to fetch the forecasts, and the text you type in the search box (or your position, if you press "Find me") goes to Photon to look the place up. Your settings are stored in this browser only.
